Applications for Australian citizenship by descent for applicants living in Sri Lanka, the Maldives, and Bangladesh are processed by the Department of Home Affairs at the Australian High Commission in Colombo.
To be eligible for Australian citizenship by descent:
- you must have been born outside Australia
- at least one of your parents must have been an Australian citizen when you were born.
If you are an Australia citizen and have had a baby overseas, you will need to register your child to obtain a Citizenship by Descent certificate in order to apply for an Australian passport.
