Australian High Commissioner congratulates Sri Lankan cricketers on their tour win in Australia

The Australian High Commissioner, HE Kathy Klugman, hosted a reception on 20 November to congratulate the Sri Lankan cricket team on its historic one-day series win over Australia recently. This was Sri Lanka’s first series win in Australia.

Presenting a picture to captain Kumar Sangakkara to mark the occasion, Ms Klugman paid tribute to the Sri Lankan team’s strong performance in Australia, and singled out the game-winning 9th wicket partnership between Lasith Malinga and Angelo Matthews in the first match for special mention. Mr Sangakara said he was proud of his team’s achievement and was looking forward to the task ahead, including the ICC Cricket World Cup in February and March next year.

The reception was attended by the management and players of the winning team, officials of Sri Lanka Cricket’s Interim Committee, sponsors and past cricketers.

Australia will play two matches in Sri Lanka during the ICC Cricket World Cup, including a match on 5 March against the host nation. Ms Klugman said she was looking forward to the upcoming World Cup match and hoped Australia might be able to turn the tables against Sri Lanka.
